About the event

Whether you are a new or well-established nonprofit organization, a strong board is key to organizational health, stability and success. In this workshop VEC consultants will provide guidance on how to ensure your board is operating effectively and will share best practices. We will cover board basics, such as the infrastructure needed, do’s and don'ts for board performance, and strategies to improve performance, as well as the pitfalls to avoid that can cause problems.

This session is intended for organizational leaders who are looking to create or strengthen their boards.

Our presenters:

(VEC consultant) Curt De Greff has been dubbed the "growth CFO," as over his career he has helped organizations grow, both in the US and abroad.  Most recently, he was Senior VP & CFO, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer at the Parkinson's Foundation, where he helped the board and the senior team grow the nonprofit over four times in revenue over a seven-year period.  Curt is a CPA in the state of Florida and travels throughout the US and the world to keep up with family, friends and to find new adventures.

(VEC consultant) Elaine Green spent her entire professional career working in nonprofit adult education.  Currently, she teaches English as a Second Language to adults in the Norristown area.  She has also been involved in tutor training, curriculum development, GED and basic skills teaching, and state and national initiatives about ESL.  She was also a board chair and served on an advisory board for a Montgomery County organization.  As such, Elaine is able to bring the nonprofit perspective to the work she does with VEC

(VEC consultant) Marla Hexter has been a VEC consultant for over nine years and spent her adult life working in the public sector.  Before moving to southeastern PA, she spent a career with the Federal Government in the national security area.  Her areas of expertise are strategic planning, troubleshooting, talent management, and team building.  Marla values working collaboratively in diverse environments to identify shared interests.  In addition, Marla is a certified leadership coach.
