In The Spotlight : Mohamed and Maria Morsi
What do a chemist and a professor of nutrition do after retirement? Mohamed and Maria Morsi haven’t had time to think about that yet. They’re too busy traveling, teaching, lecturing and volunteering!
Active in RSVP’s Speakers Bureau program, both Mohamed and Maria give regular talks on two topics near and dear to their hearts. Mohamed loves to talk about his birthplace – Egypt. His talk and slide show cover Ancient Egypt and the country’s rich and mysterious history.
Mohamed volunteers to help middle-school through high-school students learn to love science by using hands-on learning techniques. “The kids love to conduct experiments so they can really see and test the results of their work,” says Mohamed. He is also busy teaching adults computer skills. Opening new doors by helping them to communicate more effectively.
Maria gives talks on Eating for Health, covering nutrition basics and helping adults to make better food choices. She also volunteers at the Ambler Senior Center delivering Meals-on-Wheels to homebound seniors.
Both Mohamed and Maria feel there is no better way to fulfill their desire to give back to others than through volunteering.
The couple lives in Glenside. They just returned from a trip to Egypt and it seems they’re always taking a trip to some exotic port of the world.
Gail Vinikoor, their area field coordinator states “This couple is really amazing. They are very enthusiastic about their experiences and knowledge and just want to share that with others. Their presentations are awesome and very lively. We are very lucky to have them as volunteers!”
